Regional Youth Economic Summer Camp
“Junior Achievement-2005”

Youth economic summer camp “Junior Achievement- 2005” was conducted in resort sanatoria “Zuhal”, Kairakum from 4 to 20 August of 2005. 90 participants (55 boys and 45 girls), also 30 freshman and sophomore students from economic departments of regional universities and 10 young boys with age of 10-20 involved in business have participated in summer camp. They were chosen on the basis of testing made up according to Junior Achievement program.

One of the main peculiarities and benefits of youth economic summer camp was giving not only practical economic and ecological knowledge but also rendering assistance in giving theoretical and practical knowledge in business ethics. In addition, 24 Kyrgyz students were involved in summer camp. The main attention was paid to strengthen mutual friendship and promote mutually beneficial business relation between them that can help in progressing economy and security of the region. It was really reached by virtue of involving all of them in all groups where was taken gender into consideration. Lessons and trainings were conducting according to the following modules: “What is a market economy”, “What is an entrepreneurship”, “Business planning, marketing and management in small business”, “Basics of ecology and problems of region”, “Global Business Ethics”, “Management and Economic Simulation Exercise (computer game)”.

In educating part of the program the attention was paid also in enhancing economic and entrepreneur activity, upbringing participants in tolerance, responsibility of making decisions in the field of economy and ecology, also in conforming ethical and ecological norms.

Pretest and posttests conducted on economics have showed the efficiency of summer camp that helped in boosting their economic knowledge and thinking. Different kinds of competitions were conducted especially on Business Planning, Miss and Mister of JA, and objects of the summer were privatized. The Bank of JA was operating in the course of summer camp where were issued money by name of “EKO”. The participants had an opportunity to earn money by forming joint companies (for example, Pool, Warm shower, football square etc.) that assisted in the development of entrepreneurship mentality and acquisition of business skills.

The chairman of Sugd region and Education Management of Sugd region were informed about summer camp. The chairman of Sugd region gave his consent in the partnership of NGO “Junior Achievement” with entrepreneurs association of region and Nature lovers association of region for conducting Regional Economic Ecological summer camp for youth. An article about summer camp was published in “Shulai Umed” newspaper under the №22-23.

In general final meeting, 90 participants of summer camp, representatives of Sugd region, businessmen, parents and trainers have taken part and then, they adopted resolution of summer camp participants. They remarked utility and high efficiency of conducting summer camp. Also, in the resolution covered the ways of youth entrepreneurship development and organization of Youth entrepreneurship center, where the future entrepreneurs can get skills of business management, consultations and access to microloans.
