Summer Camp

Regional Youth Economic Summer Camp
“Junior Achievement-2006”

The 8 qualified trainers on competitive basis have been selected for the camp. Trainers will be teaching the following subjects in the camp: JA economics, MESE & Banks in action, ecology, business planning, Global Business Ethics and entrepreneurship. They were selected out by selection committee by their enough training and professional experiences in their field. Their modules and handouts materials were fully confirmed by program manager of the camp and prepared. The selection procedure of participants for the Regional youth economic for the camp which the aims of project is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics, enhance their civic responsibilities, and raise access to information though Internet consisted of the following steps. The first step was forming questionnaires to get enough information about participants which were complied by expert group. Applications of all applicants for the camp were thoroughly examined by expert and concluded corresponding inferences. The second step was testing them by specifically prepared testing on free market economy. Tests were prepared by expert group and were improved by project and program managers. The third step was selecting only the best applicants, whose eligibility meet set criteria (gender balance, ethical component, age, geographical location, enough leadership skills and skills in teamwork etc...). The process of selection the applicants in the camp were successfully finished considering the aforementioned criteria set by selection committee. The process of selection candidates for the camp was organized in national, regional offices of Junior Achievement Tajikistan, field offices of OSCE in close cooperation with JA staff. Testing was organized in different towns such as: Istaravshan, Kanibadam, Isfara, Shaartuz, Kulyab and Dushanbe. Information about testing procedures, testing dates and place has been published in newspapers of Sugd and Hatlon regions.

All steps were successfully fulfilled in time by work plan. Testing was conducted successfully in different towns regions and verified accordingly by expert group. The schedule of trainings, circles, camp program, and camp staff were confirmed by the project and program managers. TOT has been conducted for all accepted trainers of the camp and they were introduced with a program of the camp, commitments and camp procedures. The selection committee made its decision concerning selecting out participants of the camp on the basis of the aforementioned criteria. Participants have been invited from Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

The ethical composition of camp participants were the following: Tajik – 47, 5%, Uzbek – 6, 7%, Russian – 2, 2%, Kyrgyz – 24, 27% and Turkmen - 10, 1%. Because of limited number of applicants from universities, the majority of camp participants are schoolchildren (schoolchildren -82, 91 %, students – 8, 9 %). To an inauguration of Regional Youth Economic Summer Camp JA – 2006 representatives from international organizations (OSCE, WFP, CHF etc..), representatives from executive branch of government and private companies were present.

The program of Regional Youth Economic Summer Camp JA – 2006 consists of educational part and different cultural, sport arrangements for participants. With a view to enhance their economic literacy and help them understand fully the significance and opportunities of free market economy National Bank of JA, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, State committee for privatization, Labor market, shops, Parliament of JA have been established that form a main elements of state. In addition, Constitution of JA has been adopted by citizens. Participants are being given a chance of getting deeply involved in privatizing state objects and get profit. They understand that competition is a motor of any economic system. The principal objective is educating them in the spirit of social responsibility, tolerance and respect for human laws and values. The National Bank of JA has issued money. Participants are competing with each other by finding job from labor market and privatizing state objects and earning profit. It is giving them a real chance to understand free market economy. The national currency is ECO. Participants have a chance of earning money and spend them for buying goods from JA Mini Market. Ministries are working within their competencies and fulfilling their functions to provide favorable conditions for sound economic system. National Anthem of JA state in two languages (Tajik and English) have been written and learnt by heart by all participants. With a view to help participants have close relation in the future participants from different countries have been mixed in groups. Also, different sport competitions are being conducted with a view to keep them healthy in camp period. Intellectual games, round tables, clubs (English Club, We and Law, Empowerment education), meeting with successful businessmen and workers taxation organ are being implemented in the framework of camp program. Excursions have been organized for participants in Bank and plants for the purpose of introducing them with productions cycles of plants. Regional Youth Economic Summer Camp JA – 2006 results in creating conditions for regional economic integration of Central Asia, helping participants have close business relations, expanding borders of friendship uniting youth interests from Central Asian region and regional cooperation and strengthening bridge of mutually beneficial regional economic cooperation.
