Improving economic knowledge through partnership

On March 29 to April 1st, Junior Achievement Romania in cooperation with JA Young Enterprise of Europe organized the annual JA-YE European Student Trade Fair in Feerie trade center in Bucharest. 500 participants from more than 34 countries including JA staff, teachers and representatives participated in this great event which has united the young minds from all over Europe. All participating countries which represented their student companies were provided with stands and appropriate places in Feerie Trade centre in Bucharest where they presented their company products and services to juries. From Central Asia, Sarvar Samiev (program assistant, JA Tajikistan) and Gulnara Shegebaeva (executive director, JA Kazakhstan) were present in the event. Student companies had brought different products like computer discs, food products, hand made products, textile, mechanic appliances and national cultural hand made decorations. The jury panel consisted of successful businessmen, JA staff and experienced teachers. There were three nominations: Best stand, best product and best marketing and selling strategy. The last one was the “The best company” which combined all three criteria in one. On the basis of Jury’s decision the best company at JA-YE European Student Trade Fair, Bucharest – 2007 was recognized I-TEAM from Italy. It was the best company that met the requirements of best business plan, market analysis, and innovative product criteria. They were awarded with prizes and certificates.

Junior Achievement Tajikistan has announced the contest among the schoolchildren of secondary schools of Sugd region. The winner of the contest will be succeeded in getting the nomination “Best student on JA program”. On March 15, 2007 the first testing on JA economics was conducted in Botken region of Republic of Kyrgyzstan. Students were able to test their knowledge of economics in practice solving economic problems and working on tests. 25 schooldren took an active part in testing. One of Kyrgyz student added: “Since I started learning JA econmics, I was sure that this book would become the best book on economics for all students, and now as I see my saying is really being realized…….I always advise all my classmates be goal-oriented and never miss the golden chance of learning JA economics.”

On December 27, 2006 the second general meeting of JA Alumna was organized on the theme of “The influence of taxation on small business development” in the building of Tajik State University of Commerce. 25 Club members with 4 invited guest from tax inspectorate, international organizations, mass media representatives and businessmen participated in the meeting. Experts shared with their experiences and gave lectures on “Taxation in the Republic of Tajikistan”, “Taxation of small business in Tajikistan” and “The influence of taxation on small business development”. An open discussion was organized to enable participants ask direct questions regarding small business development, tax issues, licensing procedures, tax payer identification number and legalization of small business. A representative from International Micro-loan fund “IMON” talked about loan management, eligibility to get micro-loan for starting business, terms of payment etc… JA Alumna was offered a chance to apply for micro loans to start their businesses providing that proposing their business plans.

The winners of GBE essay contest from Tajikistan, Kazahstan, Kyrgystan, Georgia, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan countries were invited to GBE conference in Karagaly Sanatory in Kazakhstan. Partipants had presentations about national business culture, business ethics issues and their countries. They made friends with each other and learned by sharing. Also, special trainings were organized for them on "Success technology". They actively discussed issues on ethics and business. Dilorom Umarova, pupil of the 11th of Sonmin school from Tajikistan participated in the conference. She made an excellent presentation about Tajik national business culture.

In the framework of “Global Business Ethics” program (session 5), 582 students from Tajikistan in different schools and universities are studying this program and enhancing their understanding about business ethics. On December 15th, regional administrator of GBE in Tajikistan, Sarvar Samiev made site visits and conducted monitoring at schools and universities where the GBE is being taught. During monitoring process, individual interviews were organized with learners and students were given a chance of sharing their opinions about their success after learning GBE. For example, the age of students learning GBE in Tajik-Turkey Lyceum was between 14 and 15 that forms the youngest part of GBE learners in Tajikistan. Students were very active during interviews and they showed great enthusiasm in applying their mastered skills in practice. By interview results a dramatic effect on student’s way of thinking was measured. Students were enthusiastic about running their own businesses in the future in an ethical manner.

In the framework of present project of Junior Achievement Tajikistan “Youth economic and entrepreneurship education in Tajikistan “funded by USAID, JA Tajikistan organized 5 day( 12- 16 September 2006) training for teachers of market economy from different regions and cities of Sugd region. In the process of training, highly-qualified trainers of JA taught them the modern methods of teaching subject of market economy at secondary schools, strategies of interactive methods in the process of teaching and methodologies of teaching. In the end of the training, all participants were awarded with JA certificate for successful completion of 5-day seminar. This was a good step for them to enrich their teaching skills and get enough qualification for teaching the subject of market economy at schools by universal methodology of Junior Achievement.

One of the main aspects of successful business is applying ethical aspect of business in daily life. For developing business ethics plays the crucial role and has a significance impact on its successful advancement and expansion. Businesses are at the strategic center of a civil society, and they have a stake in their communities. Responsible business conduct is a key to prosperous future.

Junior Achievement’s program “Global Business Ethics” contributed significantly in improving ethical knowledge of young business. Since launching this project more than 500 students had a opportunity from that wonderful universal course of Junior Achievement.

On September 20-21, 2006 the 5th session of Global Business Ethics was launched. Special 2 day training was conducted for teachers of GBE in view to explain them the essence of GBE and teach them to main strategies of GBE teaching at secondary schools and universities of Tajikistan. The training gave them the real opportunities acquire enough teaching skills of GBE. Also, teachers were given a chance of learning by sharing, exchanging opinions and views and suggesting their ideas to make the course much more interesting and relevant for Tajik students.

Global Business Ethics gives a golden opportunity for every listener to get ethical literacy and expertise knowledge that helps to run business successfully. Moreover, the GBE has a special web-site where all students from around the world exchange information, share experiences and get involved in forums connected with ethics. Above all, it develops global communication in every course listener and helps for setting mutually beneficial business relations among youth from different countries of the world.
